“Summary of the Adventures of Tom
Sawyer”
The
character of Tom Sawyer in the novel " The Adventures of Tom Sawyer"
was very inspiring and attractive for readers. This novel was actually written
by Mark Twain and he wrote it for the teenagers but surprisingly children of
around 5 to 10 years take more interest in reading and listening this story.
The question comes in mind why this novel attracts children a lot? It is not unusual.
The reason which I depicted is that the character of Tom and Huckleberry Finn was
so appealing. In fact, my younger son was too inspired with the character of
Huckleberry Finn.
Tom Sawyer was very hyper-active, intelligent and love to
explore new things while Huckleberry Finn was careless, messy and homeless boy.
They chased Injun Joe who is the murderer in the story. In the beginning, the
story revolved around the character of Tom Sawyer who lived with his Aunt Polly
and his half-brother Sid. His aunt was somehow strict with him to make Tom
regular in going school but all in vain. He used to go school late and did not
like to study. One day, he saw a beautiful girl in the school named Becky and he
admired her a lot. He started to go school regularly just because of Becky. Tom
Sawyer loved to spend time with Huckleberry Finn as well. He went to graveyard
to cure warts with Huck and they saw Injun Joe murdered Dr. Robinson. Injun Joe
was very clever and he put blame of murder upon Muff Potter. Tom appeared
against Injun Joe in the court and admitted that he saw Injun Joe while killing
Dr. Robinson. Unfortunately, Injun Joe escaped from the court. Time passed but
Injun Joe was not captured. This incident made Tom frightened but his
hyperactive nature stirred him to do some sort of adventure and finally, he planned
to discover treasures from the haunted house which was located in his town
Saint Petersburgh. He made this plan with Huck and they both went there to
explore. Interestingly, they found Injun Joe and Spaniard there. Needless to
say, this chapter was too interesting and appealing.
Subsequently,
Tom went on a picnic with Becky and people of town in the cave after the
adventure of haunted house while Huck chased Injun Joe on the hill. Eventually
Tom and Becky lost in the cave and people of Saint Petersburgh became worried. They
went there to search Tom and Becky but all in vain. They couldn’t find them. On
the other hand, Huck informed about Injun Joe to the Welshman so Welshman and
his sons went behind Injun Joe. Injun Joe heard the voice of sneezing and
escape from the hill. The twist in the story came here that Tom saw Injun Joe
in the cave. In the meanwhile, Tom hid from Injun Joe and started to search
passages to escape from the cave. The environment of the town was so depressed.
Suddenly, the bells of the church were started to ring. Tom and Becky found and
reached to the town. Aunt Polly and Mrs. Thatcher were so happy and they
welcomed their kids with tears. Tom and Becky were too exhausted and tired so
they were on rest for around two weeks. Tom went to Mr. Thatcher’s house to
meet Becky and where Mr. Thatcher disclosed on Tom that he sealed the doors of the
cave with the lock. Tom informed him that Injun Joe was in the cave so people
went to open the doors of the cave and found Injun Joe dead. The murderer finally
reached to his end. However, Tom and Huck were freed to explore treasures and
Tom realized that treasures were in the cave. They entered the cave and found
treasures. Widow Douglas threw a party for the Tom and Huck to give them great
welcome and prize as they were heroes of the town. Tom freed Becky from cave, appeared
against Injun Joe and declared Muff Potter as an innocent. On the other side,
Huck informed Welshman about the Injun Joe’s plans of slitting nose of Widow
Douglas. Widow Douglas took the responsibility of brought up of Huckleberry
Finn and Tom Sawyer lived with her aunt Polly happily ever after.
